Jobs

Our economic emergency must be addressed immediately. The economy must be redirected towards a sustainable model, both for the Environment and for Economic Development. The State must help businesses move in that direction.

Budget

California is facing an unprecedented budget crisis.  The latest projections estimate a $20 billion deficit, and many communities have already suffered deep cuts and layoffs.  The truth is – it’s going to get worse before it gets better.  We need innovative solutions to our budget problems now so we can continue investing in our schools, expanding access to health care, building much needed infrastructure, and securing the public’s safety.  We need to recover money that is owed to the State, find areas where we can save money, and spur economic development to get people working again.

Environment

Climate change remains the most serious threat to our planet, more than anything we have ever faced. Disturbances in the planet’s temperature affect our eco-systems, our food supplies, and our oceans.

Public Safety

As a City Prosecutor for 7 years, I have seen all aspects of our criminal justice system. I have seen our resources get stretched to the breaking point, and with a worsening economy, law enforcement officials expect crime to get worse. With over 50,000 gang members in the City of Los Angeles alone, there remains a constant threat to public safety. It is imperative that law enforcement officials have the resources needed to arrest, investigate, and prosecute those responsible for victimizing our communities.

Education

I taught bilingual Middle School Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education, and I’ve seen first hand how our Public Education system has fallen into disrepair. California ranks 47th in the country, but the State is looking at laying off thousands of teachers. Whatever our budgetary issues are, we cannot afford to jeopardize the future of our State.
